What can I plant during the summer in SoCal?

Southern California is a gardener's paradise - perfect weather year around with mild humidity allows almost any vegetable to flourish!

If you're wondering what can be grown during the summer in SoCal, you came to the right place! We're currently growing: zucchini, tomatoes, green beans, pumpkins, lettuce, potatoes, peppers, tomatillos, butternut squash, cucumbers, carrots.

My fiance Vince has the best green thumb out of anyone I know. Gardening has become a fun activity that we get to do together every Saturday morning. There is nothing better than growing your own food, putting your hands in some soil and spending time outside together.

Our entire front yard has been converted into a massive garden - with 3 zucchini plants and a whopping 17 pumpkins taking over! Here are a few pictures of our garden harvests over the last few weeks:

We eat green beans for dinner pretty much every other day - they make an quick, easy and healthy side dish. Just add a little bit of Costco's Kinder's Buttery Steakhouse to season them. The last time we made them for Vince's sister, she said they tasted like french fries!
These purple potatoes and carrots are bursting with color! We recently used these for a pot roast.
These butternut squash are getting massive! Planning on using these to make butternut squash soup!
We literally cut three zuchinnis every other morning - that's how many our plants produce! We can't eat them fast enough! I've been giving them to neighbors, friends, family, coworkers just about anyone that will take them. Zucchini bread, fries, zucchini boats, zucchini noodles and just regular sauteed zucchini are a few ways to use this vegetable - it's so versatile!

The San Diego Seed Company (sandiegoseedcompany.com) has a handy little chart for anyone wondering what can be grown during different seasons! We have this magnet up on our fridge to refer to anytime we are ready to start planting! ๐Ÿ™‚

As you can see below there are two main growing seasons-- warm and cool. We're currently in the warm season; soon we'll be planing beets and my favorite- broccoli!
